Educator and Administrative Assistant - Full Time
The Long Island Science Center (LISC) seeks an experienced Educator and Administrative Assistant to assist in the management and day-to-day operations of the Long Island Science Center. We are searching for an energetic individual with a passion for STEAM education, excellent communication and organizational skills who is efficient, self-confident, and comfortable presenting to students. The ability to multi-task, while maintaining complex schedules and managing administrative support and a teaching schedule, is essential in this position.
The ideal candidate for this job is well organized, resourceful, and a good problem solver with a positive outlook, and a passion for STEAM. Completion of tasks and workload in a timely manner is the key to success in this position. Responsibilities:
Provides administrative support to Executive and Program Director in operation and management of programs and marketing.
Actively learn and deliver LISC program content to schools, private groups, and public audiences. Programs are offered on-site, mobile throughout New York State, and virtually nationally and internationally. Some travel is required for mobile programs.
Working with the Program Director and the Executive Director, help develop new programs to meet growing and changing needs in the education space.
Assist with program planning, booking, materials preparation, and staffing school programs, after school programs, birthday parties, summer camps, lectures, and other events.
Organize and maintain an efficient filing system and patron database.
Oversee inventory and ordering of programing supplies, gift shop items, and office related products and supplies. Prepare and mail materials kits for virtual programs
Assist with marketing planning and implementation including social media, calendar listings, eblasts, and website updates.
Compose and generate letters, memos, emails, and reports when appropriate. Respond to questions and requests for information.
Answer incoming calls and emails and assume other visitor services duties in the museum when needed.
Preferred Skills: Exceptional communication and organizational skills. Confidence in classroom presentation. Willingness to learn new content and deliver programs with enthusiasm and engagement. Knowledge of office management systems and procedures. Working knowledge of computers and office equipment. Experience working with a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) database or other patron relationship management software. Proficiency in MS Office with expertise in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Familiar with social media and website administration. Ability to analyze and revise operating practices to improve efficiency. Detail oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced office environment. Superior organization skills and dedication to completing projects in a timely manner. Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred. Please note that we require a background check and for educators to be fingerprinted through New York State.
Work Schedule/Hours: Monday through Friday and some weekends. Schedule flexes based on the program schedule.
Salary: $17-$22 per hour
Visitor Services Staff- Weekday and Weekends

Major Gifts Manager/Capital Campaign
Part Time/ Contract
Job Description
This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to join our team in a part-time or contract capacity. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Major Gifts Manager devises and manages effective strategies and business plans to identify, engage, cultivate, solicit and steward individual donors, prospects, corporations, and family foundations capable of contributing $10,000 or more for a $15 million capital campaign. Manages a fluid portfolio of qualified current and potential major donors, family foundations and planned giving prospects primarily those with a passion for STEM education.
In collaboration with the Executive Director devises, implements and monitors strategic relationship plans and prospect management goals including the number of contacts made monthly, solicitation plans and dollars through the closure of the capital campaign. Works closely with the Executive Director to develop and implement strategies and programs for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major donors.
College graduate with emphasis on non-profit development management including major gifts and capital campaigns, business, public relations, and or comparable work experience. Minimum of 5-7 five years of experience and proven success in non-profit management and major gifts fundraising. Specific experience with capital campaigns and planned giving is preferable. Excellent writing and communication skills. Ability to deal with people from various socioeconomic, cultural, and professional backgrounds in an effective and persuasive manner. Maintaining confidentiality as it relates to donors is required. Must be able to work effectively and collaboratively in both a remote, independent environment as well as in an office setting and adhere to the organization’s Remote Working policy. Computer literate with experience in Altru or other donor management software is preferable.

Per Diem Educators - Nights, Weekends and School Days
Per diem educators provide our instructor-led courses both onsite here at our location and off-site in schools throughout Suffolk and Nassau County. We are looking for educators who are willing to learn programs and be a part of a team that is working to instill a love of STEM in both children and adults.
Responsibilities:
Act as a public face of our institution within the school system and with the public
Set-up and teach workshops
Breakdown and inventory program kits
Provide engaging content based on lesson plans
Qualifications:
Experience working in a classroom situation
Ability to manage groups of children up to 50
Certified teacher or relevant education experience, with an emphasis on science
Cheerful, friendly, outgoing disposition
Passion for STEM
Work Schedule/Hours: Flexible, as available
Salary: $20-$75 per hour plus mileage (based on type of program)
Birthday Party Educators and Assistants
Do you love STEM and working with children? We are looking for energetic staff members to run and teach birthday parties at the Science Center in Riverhead. No education background needed. We are looking for positive upbeat personalities who can engage and have fun with children. Training on content is provided.
Work Schedule/Hours: Flexible as available on Fridays from 5pm-7:30pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30am-11am and 5pm-7:30pm
Salary: Educator $85 per event, Assistant $50 per event.
Scout Educators
Help local scout groups earn their STEM badges! If you love scouts and want to help them with their badge goals we are looking enthusiastic staff to learn our badge programs and work with scouts to complete their requirements. Programs are 1 1/2 hours long and usually take place after 5pm during the week.
Salary: $65 per program
Summer 2024 Museum Staff
We are looking to hire weekday staff for our Riverhead museum for the months of July and August. If you love STEM and enjoy working with children and families you might be a great fit for our Tanger Outlet Pop-up. Ideal for a high school or college student. Environmental Investigation 2025 Internship
We are looking for high school and college students interested in participating in an environmental investigation into air and water quality in the Riverhead/Riverside area. We will be conduction field sampling throughout the week, compiling the data we collect and entering it into a GIS system.
